Training in Care is a Skills for Care endorsed Centre for Excellence providing bespoke training which is fully funded to the residents of South Tyneside. We hold the Matrix Standard accreditation for our IAG Service enabling learners to make informed choices regarding their learning and career pathways. 

​

Our objective is to deliver a seamless pathway of progression from Entry Level through to higher level qualifications and into volunteering and employment. 

​

Our vocational care courses offer numerous opportunities within the care sector to residents who are either wishing to change their career, are school leavers, leavers of high education, as well as those who are struggling to find work or who have found themselves in long term unemployment.

With over 20 years in business, we pride ourselves on the high quality of our training packages.

 

We currently offer all our courses online and face to face as a hybrid approach for delivery.

1 Day Courses 

As an endorsed provider Training in Care have developed and written some short one day courses which are aimed at making learners more employable and can be used as CPD for employers.

The Mental Health Awareness Course is an introduction to mental health. It looks at different types of mental illness and how we can positively impact our own mental health.

​

The Dementia Awareness course is aimed at creating awareness of dementia, covering the signs and symptoms as well as the causes.

ADHD Awareness 

​

The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Course investigates some of the various characteristics and triggers of the disorders as well as ways of identifying them and ways to try and overcome them.

ASD Awareness 

​

The Autistic Spectrum Disorder course aims to examine the main characteristics of ASD, identify possible triggers of negative behaviour and evaluate strategies that may influence change in behaviour.

Next Steps

The aim of our ‘Next Steps’ course is to prepare learners for employment within the care sector. The focus of this course is on the learner’s individual and professional development, providing a clear pathway from vocational training into work.

First Aid in the Workplace

​

This online First Aid at Work content is suitable for people who are designated as an appointed person in the workplace. This online content will help meet the needs of those supporting a qualified First Aid at Work (FAW) practitioner. The content also fulfils the requirements for the FAW annual refresher.

The following conditions are covered:

  • Unconscious (including seizure)

  • Not breathing normally

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • Bleeding severely

  • Suffering from shock

  • Choking

Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Early Years Settings

​

This qualification will allow learners to gain a basic knowledge of childcare in early years environments. This includes the value of play, roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers and the importance of developing links in the local community. It covers working with children up to the age of 5 years. The qualification is aimed at parents and volunteers wishing to participate in the provision made by early years environments, such as pre-schools.

Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care 

​

This qualification develops a basic knowledge of the adult social care sector. It covers the type of job roles and services within it, the role of communication and the importance of valuing the individuals being cared for.

Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce 

​

This includes knowledge and skills. This includes a work experience element of 150 hours of placement where evidence of skills needs to be gathered. Learners will be required to undergo a DBS check when enrolling onto this course.

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments including early years and social care. It covers a wide range of areas including safeguarding, health and safety, supporting speech and language, and child development. 

 

*Course duration is 14 weeks with learners attending one session per week alongside their work placement*

Level 2 Diploma in Care

​

This qualification includes knowledge and skills. This includes a work experience element of 150 hours of placement where evidence of skills needs to be gathered. Learners will be required to undergo a DBS check when enrolling onto this course. 

This qualification will support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments.

It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures. 

 

*Course duration is 18 weeks with learners attending one session per week alongside their work placement*

Entry Level 3 Award in Occupational Studies for the Workplace

​

This course is intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. Learners can develop a more ‘hands on’ approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational area(s). The skills, knowledge and understanding gained may help learners prepare for work through real or simulated work situations and may contribute to preparing them for working life beyond education. The qualification is intended to give learners a solid base from which to further develop their skills and learning.

Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness

​

This course is appropriate for a wide range of people with an interest in raising their own understanding of mental health issues. It would complement study in a range of areas, e.g. citizenship, PSHE, healthcare, social care, counselling or public services. It may also be particularly useful for those working within the voluntary and community sector and for others whose role calls for interaction with the general public in their day-to-day work. 

 

This qualification aims to: 

  • Raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties 

  • Dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues 

  • Develop learners’ knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues. 

  • Individual and professional development, providing a clear pathway from vocational training into work.

Level 1 Award in Safeguarding in a Learning Environment

​

The qualification aims to provide learners with the suitable knowledge, guidance, support and understanding that everyone has the right to learn, to be safe and to be respected. Learners will be able to make sure that they are being provided with a safe and secure learning environment that promotes their health and wellbeing. 

 

This covers: 

  • Bullying and ways to deal with it. 

  • Social and emotional resilience exercises.

  • Developing self-awareness.

  • Recognising the needs of others.

  • Develop reflective skills.

Level 1 Award in Managing your Money

​

This course aims to identify the needs of learners in their ability to manage money from basic counting change in shops to progress to: 

  • Develop the learner’s awareness of financial products and services such as savings accounts and loans.

  • Increase the learner’s knowledge of saving and borrowing money. 

  • Make informed decisions when choosing financial products and services. 

  • Understand the risks to personal finances. 

  • Compare goods, products and services.

Level 1 Award in Employability Skills

​

These courses equip learners to identify vacancies, promote themselves, prepare for a job interview and maximise their chance of success at interview, for paid employment or volunteering opportunities. This qualification is designed for anyone who uses, or would like to use:

  • Helping skills at work or in a personal capacity.

  • Learners who wish to progress towards further qualifications.

Learners who wish to study this programme to complement other programmes e.g. health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, voluntary and community work.

Level 1 Award in Nutrition and Health

​

This course is designed for learners looking to improve their understanding of nutrition and health. The course aims to:

  • Develop learner’s understanding of the importance of eating healthily and maintaining hydration

  • Develop learners' understanding of food choices and how to make healthy choices

  • Help learners plan a healthy diet for self and others 

  • Increase understanding of eating disorders, the connections between food and feelings and ways to seek help and support.

​

This course aims to improve learner’s understanding of stress. They will look at the causes of stress and the effects stress can have on health. They will also learn to recognise the signs and symptoms of stress and look at ways of preventing or reducing stress.

Level 1 Award in Volunteering

​

This qualification is suitable for learners who are thinking about working as a volunteer and will provide them with an insight into the role and an awareness of the personal standards required of them whilst volunteering. It is also suitable for those learners who are already in a volunteering role and will enhance both their knowledge and skills. In these circumstances the learners could use their volunteering role to assist them to gather the evidence required.

The Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care has been designed to enable learners to access Higher Education or assist with progression into the workplace.

This qualification supports progression into a wide range of job roles in the health and social care sector, including: 

 

•  Care Support Workers in adult residential settings

•  Healthcare Assistants in community, primary care and acute health environments

•  Care Support Workers in domiciliary services, supported living or day services

•  Community-based Support Workers

NCFE CACHE  Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care

Study Programme (16-19 year olds)

Training in Care’s Study Programme is designed to provide young people with a clear understanding of the choices and opportunities for work within the Child and Adult Care Sectors. We offer a useful and enjoyable programme through a tailored learner-centred approach that focuses on work readiness skills, including work experience and placement.

Our study programme are built up of core qualifications, additionality, supporting qualifications, tutorials, support and enrichment. 

Level 1 Study Programme in Child and Adult Care

This programme includes two accredited level 1 qualifications to accommodate learner choice for progressing to their level 2 programme. This programme is aimed at boosting the learner’s confidence and self-esteem.

​

​

  • Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Early Years Settings: This qualification will allow learners to gain a basic knowledge of childcare in early years environments. Previous activities have included planning and taking part in fundraising for Cancer Research.

  • Maths and English are not included in the level 1 study programme as we have identified that this is a barrier to anyone first starting learning. 

​​

*Course duration is 10 weeks with learners attending at least 16 hours per week across 3 days*

 

 

Level 2 Study Programme in Childcare

​

This programme includes an interchangeable core aim of a Level 2 Certificate in Introducing Caring for Children and Young People or a Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.

​

​

  • Level 2 Certificate in Caring for Children and Young People: is a knowledge only level 2 which has been introduced as a pre-level 2 qualification for those learners who are not ready to go out into a work experience/placement. By completing this knowledge only level 2 learners will build up the confidence they need in the sector. This qualification provides an opportunity to study a range of topics from three main areas; childcare and education, babysitting and parenting responsibilities. There are units covering learning, development and play

​​

  • Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce: this includes knowledge and skills. This includes a work experience element of 150 hours of placement where evidence of skills needs to be gathered. Learners will be required to have a current DBS check before enrolling onto this qualification aim. This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments including early years and social care. It covers a wide range of areas including safeguarding, health and safety, supporting speech and language, and child development. Our level 2 programmes also include additional and supporting qualifications which include;

- Level 2 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities: this qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills around supporting individuals with learning disabilities. - Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings: this qualification provides the knowledge to equip learners with and understanding of the health, social care and children and young people’s sector and their role within it. Topics include expectations of an employer, skills and attitudes required, current trends and how this influences the sector.

  • Tutorials and support: are available weekly and are linked to a programme of mental wellbeing.

*Course duration is 25 weeks with learners attending at least 16 hours a week across 4 days*

Level 2 Study Programme in Adult Care

​

This programme includes an interchangeable core aim of a Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care or a Level 2 Diploma in Care.

​

  • Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care: is a knowledge only level 2 which has been introduced as a pre-level 2 qualification for those learners who are not ready to go out into a work experience/placement. By completing this knowledge only level 2 learners will build up the confidence they need in the sector.This qualification provides an ideal taster for those who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector. It is ideal for learners who want to understand more about working in health and social care.

  • Level 2 Diploma in Care: this qualification includes knowledge and skills. This includes a work experience element of 150 hours of placement where evidence of skills needs to be gathered. Learners will be required to have a current DBS check before enrolling onto this qualification aim. This qualification will support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments.It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.

Topics include expectations of an employer, skills and attitudes required, current trends and how this influences the sector. Functional Skills is a requirement of our study programme for learners who have not yet achieved a grade 9 to 4 at GCSE.

  • Enrichment – focuses on outcomes for learners to include developing skills required to plan and execute activities, teamwork skills, building their confidence and self-esteem which will help for progression into all types of employment.

*Course duration is 25 weeks with learners attending at least 16 hours a week across 4 days*

 

 

Level 3 Study Programme in Childcare

The level 3 study programme is a direct progression route from our level 2 programme. This includes a core aim of Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification. 

​

​

  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce: this qualification is designed to build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas and we have chosen the pathway of learning, development, and support services. This qualification aim includes a work experience element of 250 hours of placement where evidence of skills needs to be gathered. Learners will be required to have a current DBS check before enrolling onto this qualification aim.

 

Our level 3 programmes also include additional and supporting qualifications if the learner has not already completed these previously, which include:

  • Level 2 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities: this qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills around supporting individuals with learning disabilities. It is aimed at learners who support individuals with learning disabilities as part of their job role.

  • Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care: this qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in care settings. It aims to focus on the study of the adult care worker role in care settings. The objectives are to build knowledge and skills to work in adult care in health and social care settings in England.This qualification aim includes a work experience element of 250 hours of placement where evidence of skills needs to be gathered. Learners will be required to have a current DBS check before enrolling onto this qualification aim.

Our level 3 programmes also include additional and supporting qualifications if the learner has not already completed these previously, which include:

Esteem Programme

The aim of Training in Care‘s Esteem Programme is to engage adults with disabilities within South Tyneside in qualification activity to provide the skills and learning they need to need to equip them for work or further learning. 

​

The objective is to deliver a supported educational pathway of progression from entry level 3 to level 2 award qualifications to; increase engagement, lower social isolation, raise skills levels, improve employment prospects and support progression.

On completion of the whole programme learners will have a suite of 7 qualifications at the appropriate level for the individual learner. 

​

The qualifications are intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. Learners can develop a ‘hands-on’ approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational area(s). The skills, knowledge and understanding gained help learners prepare for work through real or simulated work situations and contribute to preparing them for working life beyond education.
